QCGeek.com is written by me, Jay Detmer.

I studied Computer Science at Iowa State, receiving less than adequate grades, from 2000 to 2002, when I transferred to Scott Community College and got an Associate’s in Liberal Arts with an A average.

I started working at the Quad-City Times newspaper in Davenport, Iowa soon after as an ad designer and worked my way to Tech Services, where I currently fix everything from desk clocks to hundred-thousand-dollar imaging lasers.

I’ve been casually interested in photography for as long as I remember, but started taking it seriously when I took a b&w film photography at Scott.  Since then my hobby has started taking over my free time and wallet.  To see my pictures, head over to http://www.flickr.com/photos/broadsword85/.

One day I realized that I’d learned enough electronics to build a robotic arm, so I did.  It was smaller than I thought it would be, so I built another and mounted them on a torso.  After a few doses of rum, I built some legs.  I didn’t want to pay the high price for a controller, so I built one myself – costing more than the ones I was avoiding.  But, I got to order a custom machined circuitboard from China, so it all evens out.

If you actually wanted to know any of this, congrats, now you do.  Otherwise, why did you read it?  Anyway, enjoy the pearls of wisdom that ooze from my brain and try not to make me add you to the Moron section!
